Date of assessment 22 May to 10 June. Downhurst Residential Home Limited is a residential care home providing care to older people some of whom were living with dementia. The home can accommodate up to 25 people in one building. At the time of our inspection 17 people were living at the home. We carried out this assessment due to information of concerns we had received about the service. We looked at quality statements in the safe, caring and well-led key questions. We spoke with 5 people and 1 relative. We spoke with 5 staff including the registered manager. We reviewed records including care plans for 8 people and recruitment files for 3 staff. Following our visit on site we reviewed a range of service records including, staff training and supervision matrix, accident and incident logs, complaints and safeguarding logs and policies/procedures. We did not assess all quality statements at this inspection. For those areas we did not assess, we used the ratings awarded at the last inspection to calculate the overall rating. We did not identify breaches of any regulations during this assessment. Following this assessment the overall rating for the service has changed from requires improvement to good. This was because people received care that was safe and met their needs. The provider had effective systems to ensure medicines where appropriately managed. Staff were safely recruited. Risks of harm to people’s health and wellbeing was well managed, monitored and measures were in place to mitigate risks as much as possible. The home was clean and well maintained. Staff were trained well and understood their role and responsibilities.
