During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people that used the service. They were all happy with the care that they received. One person told us 'I love it here, it's my home'. Another person told us 'Everybody is very kind and the food is very good'.

We spoke with a relative of a person that used the service. They told us 'The care that my mother-in-law has had has been unbelievable. She's very happy and there's a programme of activities so we can also be involved'.

We spoke with a staff member who told us 'If I had to find a residential home for my own mum this would be the one'.

We found that people and their relatives were provided with opportunities to give feedback about the service and that there comments and suggestions were acted upon. We saw that people's needs were assessed and their care plans were regularly reviewed.

We found that medication was stored appropriately and administered safely. We spoke with people that told us that they were provided with information about how to make a complaint.

We had concerns with the way that amounts of medication were being recorded as the records did not provide an accurate figure of medication in stock.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with people who use the service and their relatives; they told us that Grangefield Residential Home was a pleasant place to live, with nice staff and good facilities. We found that the home was well maintained and the monitoring of the quality of care helped to continuously improve the service. However we found minor concerns in the storage of medication.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with several people during the inspection visit. They told us that they were very happy living at Grangefield and were supported to make decisions about their care. The felt that staff respected their wishes, involved them in developing their care plans and were supportive.

People told us that there was a good choice in the menu and that they were very happy with the food provided. Support was available for people making difficult decisions about moving back to living in their own home.

People said that the home was very comfortable and care workers always met their personal and health care needs. They also said that when they were ill contact was made at their request for the GP to visit. Several people said that they could not think of any situation in which they had to make a complaint about their care and welfare. They also said that they had no concerns about their safety. They were clear about who to speak to if they had a concern, complaint or felt that they were not being treated appropriately. We were told by a person using the service that on occasions they noticed that other people had dropped tablets on the floor during mealtimes. They were concerned that people had not received their medication.

Everyone said that the care staff were supportive, caring, friendly, obliging and carried out their work in a professional and competent manner. Many staff provided support outside of their hours so that people living at Grangefield can have additional support with leisure activities.

People using the service told us that they were invited at every opportunity to give feedback on the service they receive. They commented that the owner was also available and approachable to raise any matters about their service.
