Walshaw Hall is registered to provide personal care and accommodation for up to 56 people. Accommodation is provided over three floors, each of which has adapted facilities. The ground and first floor provide care to people living with dementia. The top floor is designated for those people requiring residential care. We carried out an on-site assessment, starting on 20 March 2024 and ending on 27 March 2024. This assessment was prompted in part due to concerns received about safeguarding and the absence of a Registered Manager. At the time of the assessment the new manager in place undertook their fit persons registration interview and is now registered with CQC. We looked at 10 quality statements in the safe, effective, responsive, caring and well-led key questions. At our last inspection the service was rated ‘good’. At this assessment, the rating for the service has remained the same. Although staff delivered good quality care which met people’s needs and respected people’s wishes and dignity, they had not always received all the mandatory training they needed. The provider had some staffing challenges which meant members of the ancillary team had been deployed to help at mealtimes. Processes had been put in place for managing medicines safely, however, we did identify some manual cream charts not always being completed. The newly appointed Registered Manager was aware of the issues, with a plan in place to drive improvement.
