Our view of the service
Balby is a residential care home, providing support to younger adults who live with a learning disability, mental health conditions or autism. At the time of our inspection 7 people were using the service. Our inspection was prompted due to several safeguarding concerns we received. We visited the service on the 27 November 2024 and 2 December 2024. Whilst overarching quality and safety systems were in place, these had not been effective in identifying some concerns. We identified breaches in relation to safeguarding and governance. Medicines were not always managed safely, and we have identified a breach in relation to managing medicines. At the time of our inspection the provider had taken immediate action to protect people from the risk of harm.
People's experience of this service
Most people told us staff were kind and they enjoyed a range of activities. However, some people and relatives raised concerns about their care and treatment. At the time of the inspection the provider was monitoring how staff treated people and if they treated people with respect and dignity, due to recent safeguarding allegations. One person said, “The staff are good, they are nice to me. I feel happy and safe living here.” Whilst a relative said, “[Name] used to have a good relationship with the carers, but now I feel that trust is in doubt.”
