Bryn Haven is a residential care home providing personal care and dementia care to 40 people with a variety of conditions at the time of our site visits. The home is registered to provide care for up to 42 people over 2 floors in one building. This unannounced assessment was carried out between 24 April 2024 and 15 May 2024. The assessment was triggered by concerns we received about the service. During the assessment we reviewed 11 quality statements across 3 key questions. Not all quality statements were reviewed at this assessment and consequently will not have a rating awarded at this time. At this assessment we identified breaches of regulation, regarding medicines management, people’s individual risk management and safe staffing levels. We observed some people did not always appear well kempt or receive support in a timely way. We had concerns relating to the frequency of opportunity for people to have baths/showers. Staff had mostly been trained and had been recruited safely. Safety concerns and events were reported, investigated and any learning was shared with staff. The registered manager carried out many periodic checks, including daily walkarounds of the service and audits of care documentation. However, these checks had not always identified and/or actioned the concerns we found on this assessment. The registered manager was responsive when we raised our concerns and had already put an action plan in place to address the issues found on day one of the site visits.
