Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 8 November to 3 December 2024. This was a responsive inspection to check if the service is now meeting regulations following the warning notices CQC served on 26 February 2024, for failing to meet the regulations relating to safe care and governance. Enbridge House Care Home is a residential care home providing personal care and accommodation to people aged 65 and over. At the time of the assessment there were 14 people accommodated. The service had made improvements and is no longer in breach of regulations. People received their care and treatment safely. The providers had safe recruitment processes for their recruitment of new staff. Sufficient improvements had been made in relation to the governance of the service, health, and safety. However, further time is required for the providers to fully embed the changes made to their governance systems to ensure they are fully effective at enabling them to identify any new and emerging risks.

People's experience of this service

People and relatives told us they were happy living in the service, and they were safe. A person said, I’m very happy here and I would recommend anyone to come here.” Five people and relatives either said more staff were needed or that more staff would be beneficial at busy times. Two people commented that they had to wait for their call bell to be answered, but not for lengthy periods, no longer than 3 minutes. People told us they were cared for by a consistent staff team who were both caring and competent. People felt safe in the care of staff whom they felt both understood and managed any potential risks to them. A relative said, “The continuity of care is a valuable factor to us, massive, the approachability of the owners and it is a small home.” People said they had any equipment they required to keep them safe. Relatives felt staff promoted their loved one’s independence whilst they provided their care. When some issues were raised with us the management team responded immediately to assure themselves of people’s comfort and safety and took any required action. The view of people and relatives was that the atmosphere and the care provided were more important to them than the home’s physical appearance, aspects of which required updating. A person commented, “I’ve never found anything dirty, it’s old and tired but that’s not important to me, it’s the care.” People and relatives felt the service was sufficiently clean. A relative said, “It is a very tired home, clean enough.” Relatives told us people were escorted by staff in the garden. The providers were aware of the need to replace some of the paving in the rear garden and arrangements were in hand to complete this work. People told us they received their medicines when they needed them. Relatives said they were informed of any changes to their loved one’s medicines.
