Wensley House Residential Home is a residential care home providing personal care and accommodation for up to 48 people aged 65 and over, including people living with dementia. At this inspection there were 36 people living at the service. This assessment commenced on 10 December 2024 which was unannounced and concluded on 20 January 2025. We further met with the provider and registered manager on 18 December 2024 and 15 January 2025. These additional meetings were held to receive assurance and evidence of action around some of our assessment findings. We spoke with three people who use the service and 8 of their relatives and further received feedback from 8 staff members and three professionals who work with Wensley House.

We reviewed care records for 5 people, and records relating to care and treatment, consent, accidents and incidents, medicines, governance, management and quality monitoring, staff recruitment, and training. The service was last inspected on 17 July 2019 and rated requires improvement. This assessment was prompted due to an incident that occurred within the service and the length of time since the previous rating. At this assessment we found overall that people received a good standard of care, but that management systems were not operated effectively.

Processes for monitoring the quality of care provided were not operated effectively. This was a breach of regulation 17 (Good governance). However we found the management team to be open, honest and proactive about actions already taken and how they intended to continue to improve
