Caring

Good

Updated 13 March 2024

People were encouraged to be independent. Systems to support people to identify long term goals and achieve them needed further work, however people were supported to make decisions on their day-to-day activities. This included being supported to maintain their relationships with family members and access activities in the local community.

This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Score: 3

People and their relatives told us staff supported them to stay in touch and maintain their relationships. Relatives were able to visit when they wanted. People and relatives told us staff were proactive at supporting them to access the activities and the local community.

Staff told us they felt it was important to support people’s independence and encourage them to do things themselves. One staff member said, “This is their own home, we try to make sure they do jobs to look after their own home." Staff told us they sat down each week individually with each person to help them talk about what activities they enjoyed and what they would like to plan for the week ahead.

We observed staff explained to people what was happening and helped them make decisions about what they wanted to do. We observed staff encouraged people respectfully to carry out tasks for themselves.

Systems to help people identify long term goals and wishes required further work. Whilst a system was in place records showed these were not routinely reviewed. We found for some people their goals were out of date or had been completed and they had not been supported to identify new ones.
