All Inspections

During a routine inspection

At the time of our inspection visit there were three students living in the service. We spoke with all of them. In addition, we spoke with three parents. Everyone we spoke with gave us positive feedback about the service. A student with special communication needs pointed to a nearby member of staff, smiled and said, 'Good, help me with what I do.' A parent said, 'I have seen a definite improvement in their ability and in self-confidence since they started living there. They're more outgoing and more communicative than before.'

Staff had consulted with students and parents about what support each person needed and wanted to have.

Students said that they received all of the health and personal care they needed. Records confirmed that assistance had been provided in a safe, reliable and responsive way.

The accommodation was comfortable and accessible.

There were enough staff on duty to ensure that students could receive the individual attention they needed.

There was an effective system for dealing with complaints so that issues could be resolved quickly and fairly.

During a routine inspection

During our visit we spoke with four people who used the service, the manager and three care workers. People told us they were happy at Yew Tree Lodge and they liked all the staff. One person said, 'It's really nice here because everyone is kind to each other.' Another person told us, 'It's a friendly home, everyone is nice and I've made lots of friends.'

People we spoke with confirmed they were supported to make choices and decisions about the care they received. They told us they were assisted to be as independent as possible. One person told us, 'I have achieved most of my goals including the cooking dinner for people. I made lasagne, I make a good one.' Another person said,' Sometimes it gets a bit noisy and I like to spend time in my room.'

When we spoke with people they told us they felt safe and the staff treated them with respect. Some of the comments we received included, "I feel safe, everyone is nice' and 'If I was worried about something I could talk to the staff, my friends or mum and dad.'
