During a routine inspection
People living at the home had complex needs and most of the people were unable to verbally communicate their views and experiences to us. We saw throughout the inspection that staff treated people with dignity and respect. We observed staff knocking on people's bedroom doors prior to going in and heard them engaging positively with people. We observed people having the choice of spending time in their rooms or in the communal areas of the service.
We spoke with four members of staff during the inspection about how they met the individual needs of people. They spoke with knowledge and understanding of the people they supported and cared for. Staff knew what actions to take in the event that they had concerns about potential abuse and the safeguarding of people. However, we identified that some further training is needed in regard to the Mental Capacity Act.
We found that some improvements were needed to repair and refurbish the home.
People had their care and needs assessed, however we found that records were not always up to date or reflective of current needs. This meant that there was the potential for people not to have their needs met.
