Equity in experiences and outcomes

People received good care and were cared for well by staff. A relative told us, "Yes, I’m very happy, [person] enjoys all of the activities and [person] is very settled there."

Staff also told us they knew people well and their needs. A staff member told us, "We support one person who likes to play different music around the 60s and 70s and also they like to go out using the community. We also support another person who likes their support and care given in a particular way due to their autism."

Care plans were personalised based on peoples preferences and choices. Staff had a good understanding of the ethos of the service and were clear about their responsibilities. They understood their roles and told us they were supported by the management team. Where people had any cultural or religious needs, these were recorded to ensure staff were aware of them. Staff had a good knowledge of people’s beliefs and cultural needs and ensured these were met. Quality assurance systems were in place to ensure people received safe care and support. This included regular audits on care plans and risk assessments to ensure people received personalised support. Communication plans were in place that included information on how to communicate effectively with people and peoples preferred communication style. Materials such as Pictorial Exchange Communication was used to communicate with people Staff followed health professionals advice to ensure they were responsive to peoples needs. Quality monitoring systems were in place to obtain feedback from people, relatives and staff. Surveys had been sent to people and relatives to attain feedback on care delivery, the results were positive. Feedback were sought from staff as part of staff meetings and supervisions to improve the running of the service. Surveys were also carried out to staff on how to make the home a great place to work.
