All Inspections

3 June 2013

During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service, because the people living at Lindesfarne had complex needs which meant that not all of them were able to tell us their experiences.

There were recording and communication systems in place to obtain and respect people's choices and decisions about their day-to-day support and care.

People were supported to attain their goals and aspirations. People's dignity, well being, health and safety needs were adequately met. They were supported to maintain their personal care and to access a range of social activities and health care services.

An improvement to the maintenance of the premises was sustained with on-going maintenance and refurbishment of both internal and external areas of the home. People were supported to gain safe access to all communal areas of the premises.

People who used the service responded well to members of staff. There were a sufficient number of trained and skilled members of staff to provide people who used the service with safe and appropriate support and care.

Records were maintained and kept secure to protect people who used the service from unsafe support and care.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

Although we did not speak to any person living at the home, we noted that they were supported to gain safe access to areas of the home.

We found evidence that remedial action was taken to ensure that people who used the service, visitors and staff were safer due to improved fire safety systems in place. We also found there was improvement made and work was in progress to ensure that people had access to tidier external areas of the premises.

During a routine inspection

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service, because the people using the service had complex needs which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences.

We observed how staff were looking after them and we found that people were receiving safe and appropriate care and attention.

We also looked at comment cards completed by visitors to the home. Their views about how people were cared for were positive with comments such as, "Absolutely first class" and "People are supported in making (their own) decisions)".

10 October 2011

During a routine inspection

People who use the service did not talk with us about how they were being supported, however we noted that interactions between people and care staff were positive. We observed that people received a lot of staff attention and that staff regularly interacted with them and were engaged in supporting people to participate in a range of activities.
