During a routine inspection

When we visited Tidings we found there were ten people living in the home, all of whom we spoke to. We spoke to the provider, assistant manager and three other members of staff who were on duty at the time. We reviewed the care records of the people living there, the staff files, including training files, audit and administration records. We also spoke to two relatives of people living there.

People told us they enjoyed living in the home, that there was always someone to talk to and plenty to do. They told us they were 'one big family'. People living there were keen to show us their rooms and told us they liked having a pleasant place of their own where they could go if they wanted to be on their own, watch TV, play their music or to entertain in private.

We saw that people had a busy life outside of the home, making full use of the home's minibus for outings. The home was located in a central position in town and this meant the people felt part of the community.

People told us they were included in running the home and felt their views were always listened to. The people living in the home held monthly meetings, with one of them chairing the meeting. Staff also spoke about their monthly meetings which they felt were extremely beneficial and meant they could be very proactive in the running of the home.

People told us the home was very easy to contact and had no hesitation about being able to pass on any concerns they may have.

During a routine inspection

We visited Tidings as part of our planned schedule. We reviewed care and other records for the administration and management of the service. We spoke with seven of the nine people who were living in the home and the two staff on duty. We also spoke with a representative of the provider partnership and the registered manager.

People told us that they liked living in the home. They told us that it was 'like a family, residents and staff together.' They also said they talked with staff about the help they needed and that they were involved with their care plan. The people we spoke with told us that they felt safe living in the home and they found staff helpful, friendly and supportive and they could talk to them if they were worried.

We saw that people were supported to have active and busy social lives and they enjoyed going out together for meals and trips out if they wanted to. People also told us that their choices were respected as they often enjoyed quiet evenings in their own room watching television.

People told us that they felt able to speak up and make comments about the service or any concerns they had. They told us they enjoyed and valued the regular residents meetings they had with staff.

We found the service compliant in all of the five outcomes we reviewed.
