All Inspections

25 January 2013

During a routine inspection

We found that the service sought patient's consent before offering treatment. We saw records which showed us that the service assessed patients' medical needs, taking into consideration their history and any other significant information. A plan of treatment was recorded in which risks had been assessed and patient's agreement to the advice or treatment was gained. The service had defined targets for response times to calls and we saw that systems were in place to ensure the quality of the service was monitored. We spoke with a GP who was employed by the service who confirmed that the service worked within it's policies and procedures to ensure patients received appropriate treatment and advice.

We saw that patients who used the service were protected because staff had completed safeguarding of vulnerable adults and children training. We also saw that the service had policies and procedures on safeguarding.

We saw that staff were recruited safely according to policy and procedure. For example we saw evidence that all staff had Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks in place to ensure there was no known reason why they should not work with vulnerable people. (Now the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS))

We saw positive comments from a sample of ten survey questionnaires which patients had completed about their care and treatment. We found that the service responded to complaints and comments in a timely way and had systems in place to learn from adverse events.

20 October 2011

During a routine inspection

Patients were not spoken with directly as the service registered to provide the regulated activities 'transport services, triage and medical advice provided remotely' and 'treatment of disease, disorder or injury' did not transport patients to or from anywhere. The service was registered to transport GPs during out-of-hours to and from patients' homes and to ensure they received medical treatment if necessary from the visiting GP or on referral to a hospital.

We saw the last patient survey information that had been carried out by Nestor Primecare Services for the Scarborough area and this showed that patient satisfaction was high.
