Our current view of the service

Inadequate

Updated 7 February 2024

The Meadows Nursing Home is a care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 36 older people, some of whom are living with dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 30 people living at the service. The Meadows Nursing home was last rated requires improvement (published 25 March 2020) and in breach of Regulation 9 and 17 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. At this assessment we found the provider had not made enough improvements and remained in breach of Regulations 9 and 17, we also found breaches of Regulations 12 and 19 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. We carried out a responsive assessment between 12 and 29 February 2024 in response to concerns raised with us around the management and safety of the service and looked at 18 quality statements. We found concerns relating to person centred care planning, the management of risks to people including environmental risks and individual risks such as choking, medicines management, staff recruitment and training and governance of the service. The provider's processes were not always effective which meant some people were at risk of harm. Risks to people had not always adequately assessed and mitigated by the provider. The service did not have a registered manager. A new manager had been appointed but had not applied to register with the Care Quality Commission at the time of our assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 7 February 2024

Not all people felt safe living at The Meadows Nursing Home, and some felt there were not enough staff. We received mixed feedback from people and relatives about the support people received. For example, one person told us, “The staff are so busy talking to each other, you get nowhere with them. They talk over you and not to you”. There was a lack of person-centred care which meant people were not always treated as individuals. Feedback from people told us there were limited opportunities for them to pursue their interests and hobbies. One person told us, “I haven’t done anything for a long time, there’s nothing here to do”. However, one person said, “The staff are as good as gold, and they are kind”.
