Assessing needs
People were happy with the way they were included in their care. People told us they had received an initial visit when they commenced the service, and they were involved in setting up their care plan. One person said, “They [care staff] get on with things without asking, they're spot on.”
The registered manager explained the process of assessment which commenced with an initial visit to ascertain what people’s needs were and how they could be supported. Staff confirmed people’s needs were assessed and reviewed as and when required. Staff told us they visited the same people which gave them the opportunity to build up trusting relationships with them and get to know their preferences.
The provider had systems in place to ensure people’s needs were constantly reviewed. When care packages were excepted, the quality assessment officer arranged an introductory meeting to introduce themselves and to commence a plan of care and support. The initial assessment included a full assessment of needs, a safety check of the home and any risks were identified. A 6 weekly review took place to see how things were going and every 6 to 12 months there was a full care plan review. This took place sooner if people’s needs changed.
