Berrycroft Manor is a residential care home providing personal care and accommodation to up to 78 people and is located in Stockport. The service provides support to older people and people living with dementia. At the time of our inspection there were 68 people using the service. The home is purpose built and accommodates people within six units across three floors. We carried out this assessment between September and November 2024. We visited the home on 24 September and 1 and 2 October 2024. This assessment was carried out due to the previous rating of Requires Improvement in July 2022. The assessment was carried out by 2 adult social care inspectors, a medicines inspector and an expert by experience. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service. During the inspection we spoken with the registered manager, two deputy managers, 7 people who lived at the home, 5 relatives and 4 care staff. We also reviewed 8 care plans and 3 staff recruitment files. Risks to people were not always effectively managed and we found improvements were required to safeguarding processes, including the MCA (Mental Capacity Act) . People received their medication safely, although PRN (when required) protocols were not always in place and some information regarding people’s medicines needed to be easier to locate. Some topical creams and drink thickeners were not always stored securely, although we found action was taken to address this concern by the second day of our assessment. During the inspection, we identified concerns regarding risk, safeguarding and medication. We asked the registered manager if these issues had been identified through audits undertaken at the home, but they had not.
