During a routine inspection
We saw that people were relaxed and generally cheerful. They were able to walk between units, and sit where they wanted to, but a swipe card door lock protected them from wandering out of the front of the home where they could have been at risk from traffic. People had access to safe and secure outdoor areas in good weather.
We saw that people were chatting, watching television, playing games and reading magazines. We noticed that the staff interacted well with people, treating them with respect and kindness. People said: 'It is very nice here, everyone is friendly and helpful'; and 'The food is good and there is plenty of it.'
During the visit we carried out a 'Short Observational Framework Inspection' (SOFI). SOFI is a specific way of observing people's care to help us to understand the experience of people who are unable to talk with us, and enabled us to assess how people with dementia felt about living in the home.
We found that the home was visibly clean in all areas, and although the d'cor would benefit from upgrading, the premises were well presented.
The home had sufficient supplies of equipment to enable the staff to give effective care.
We viewed a variety of records, and saw that these contained adequate information.
