Our view of the service
Balmoral Care Home is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 75 people. At the time of the assessment there were 68 people living at the service. The service provides support to older people, some of whom are living with dementia. Accommodation is provided over three floors and three separate units. The Hampton unit is on the ground floor and can support up to 20 people with residential needs. The Chatsworth unit is on the first floor and can support up to 29 people with nursing needs. The Windsor unit is on the first and second floor and can support up to 26 people living with dementia. The last rating for the service was under the previous provider. We rated this service under our previous methodology on 5 December 2019 where it was inspected and rated requires improvement overall with good in the key questions of safe and caring. This service was registered with us on 20 November 2023, and this is the first assessment. We carried out this assessment on 6 June 2024. We looked at all quality statements across all key questions. At this assessment under the new provider we found the service was meeting all the quality statements we assessed and is rated good overall.
People's experience of this service
Overall people and relatives spoken with gave us positive feedback about the service, staff and the care provided. Comments included, “We are really happy about [Name’s) care. The carers are great, and we have no concerns. [Person’s] quality of life is excellent.” Another said, “[Name] is in the right place, and I have no reservations or issues at all.” People told us there were enough staff available when they needed help or support. People and/or their relatives told us they were actively involved in their care planning. Relatives told us they were kept fully informed about their family member’s wellbeing. People were treated as individuals and their views sought and listened to. One person said, “I like it here. The staff treat me well and they are friendly. I have not had any problems to raise with management. I cannot think of anything to improve.” People had access to activities and the local community to promote and support their independence, health and wellbeing. One relative said, “She gets involved in as many as she can and has created friends through such involvement.”
