There was a clear management structure in place and the registered manager was well supported. There were clear lines of responsibility and accountability designated to staff. The home had good working relationships with other professionals and partner agencies. There was a range of audit tools in place to aid oversight and management of service and systems to ensure learning and improvement. Regular meetings were held with staff to ensure information was appropriately communicated. A range of strategies were in place to facilitate involvement of all in the service and people and staff were complimentary of managers and colleagues. Staff we spoke with felt valued and considered the home a good place to work. There was a stable team of staff in post supporting people. The registered manager and staff were responsive to feedback and quickly responded to suggestions, for example in relation to staff training. Statutory requirements including communication with CQC were being met.

Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders

Staff we spoke with were complimentary of the registered manager and the wider management team. They told us that the registered manager was approachable, hands on and had time for staff. One person told us, “She's there; I'm really, really supported. If there are things you don't understand; she's there to explain / she's really approachable.”

The were clear systems for roles and responsibilities within the home and the staff and managers worked closely to support people and drive improvement across the home. Staff surveys demonstrated a positive journey and a supportive culture with the home. There were procedures to ensure staff were supported in their role and development and progress within the organisation was encouraged.

Governance, management and sustainability

Staff spoke positively about how the home was run and felt well supported in their roles. Staff understood the responsibilities of their own, and others’ roles and knew when and where to escalate concerns.

There was a suite of tools available to the registered manager to assist with monitoring and oversight of the service. Information regarding clinical issues, provider concerns, infections, safeguarding and hospital admissions were reported to wider management on a weekly basis via the internal hub. The regional manager had oversight of this and ensured checks were made during any audit visits they carried out. For example, any progress with safeguarding referrals to the host authority would be followed up and any outcomes from investigations would be reviewed for actions taken. Information was used to monitor and improve the quality of care. Electronic records were used appropriately by staff to ensure people received safe and effective care.
