During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this on-site announced assessment on 26 July 2024. We found the practice had met regulations. The practice had systems to manage risks. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and infection control procedures followed published guidance. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and patients were treated with dignity and respect. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required. There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. The practice is in Birmingham and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 1 dentist, 3 dental nurses (including 2 trainee dental nurses), 1 dental hygienist, 1 practice manager and 1 receptionist. The practice had 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with the dentist, the practice manager, 1 dental nurse and the receptionist.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

During our inspection of this service in March 2013 we found non-compliance with recruitment processes. We found that there was a lack of evidence to demonstrate that all of the required checks had been undertaken before staff began work. We carried out this inspection to find out if improvements had been made and found that they had.

18 March 2013

During a routine inspection

During our inspection processes we spoke to five people who had recently used this dental practice or were receiving treatment. People told us that they were happy with the service that had been provided and the treatment they had received. One person told us, 'I have been using that dentist for years. They are really good'. Another person said, 'The service is very good. I am always happy with my care and treatment'.

People told us and we saw that staff were helpful and polite. We found that people had received the care and treatment they needed. People told us that they were informed about the treatment they needed and were given choices and options regarding this.

We saw that processes were in place to prevent infection. People we spoke with had no concerns about the cleanliness of the practice.

Recruitment processes had not been as thorough and safe as they should have been to give assurance that only suitable staff had been employed.

We saw that processes were in place to monitor the quality of the service provided to benefit the people who used it.
