During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this on-site announced assessment on 11 November 2024. We found the practice had met regulations. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place. The practice had systems to manage risks. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Taptonville House Dental is part of Rodericks a dental group provider. The practice is in Sheffield and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. There was step free access to the practice and car parking spaces were available on nearby local roads. The practice had 11 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 4 dentists (including a foundation training dentist), 3 dental nurses (including 1 trainee), and the practice manager. The team was supported by a group compliance officer during the assessment.

During a routine inspection

We spoke privately with three people who were attending the practice for check ups or treatment. All three people told us that they were happy with all aspects of the service. People commented; "all the staff are friendly and professional. I know they put patients first,' 'it is excellent' and 'this is my first visit here. The dentist was professional and welcoming.'

People told us that the dentist explained all the procedures and treatments to them and respected their decisions about their treatment and care. Their comments included; 'the dentist always tells me what needs to be done, and explains any choices to me.They are an excellent practice' and 'my treatment is always discussed with me and I am involved in a dialogue and can always ask if I don't understand.'

People spoken with said that they always found the practice clean, tidy and hygienic. We found people received care and treatment in a clean environment with infection control measures in place to minimise the risk of infection.

The provider had a satisfactory recruitment and selection procedure in place to ensure that staff were appropriately employed. Staff were provided with relevant training to maintain and update their skills and knowledge.

The provider had an appropriate system in place for gathering, recording and evaluating information about the quality and safety of care the service provides. People who used the service were asked for their views about their care and treatment.
