Date of assessment: 7 and 8 March 2025. The inspection was prompted in part by notification of a safety incident when a person was at risk of causing harm to themselves or others. This incident is subject to further investigation by CQC as to whether any regulatory action should be taken. As a result, this inspection did not examine the circumstances of the incident. However, the information shared with CQC about the incident indicated potential concerns about the management of risks when people were at risk of causing harm to themselves or others. This inspection examined those risks.
Long Meadow is a residential care home providing accommodation for people who require personal care. The service is registered to support up to 41 people. At the time of our latest inspection, 28 people were using the service.
Policies, care plans and risk assessments were used to promote people’s safety when a person was at risk of causing harm to themselves or others. Incidents and accidents were reported and reviewed. Referrals to appropriate health and social care professionals, including to the local authority safeguarding team were made. This helped to ensure people received appropriate care, alongside other risk mitigation measures identified and overseen by leaders.
There were adequate staffing levels to ensure cleaning staff could carry out their tasks and people had access to enough specialist equipment to be supported safely. There were enough staff to support people using the service. Governance systems had improved and now provided effective oversight of quality and safety.
