People were supported to be independent and make choices. Care plans detailed people's needs and wishes. We observed staff offering choices and observed kind interactions between people and staff, most people told us they were well cared for. The service offered a wide range of meaningful activities. People received visitors and people were supported by a range of external professionals to ensure their health needs were met.

Independence, choice and control

Staff understood their roles, knew people well and were knowledgeable about how to promote people's choice and independence. Staff comments included, "We have a good bond with the people we support, we maintain people's independence, always give choices such as what clothing they would like and encourage people to do their own personal care" and, "People's family and friends are encouraged to come, I would recommend it here. I would have my own relative here."

People were supported to make choices and have control over their own care. The service offered a wide range of meaningful activities, including singers, animal encounters, church services, chair based exercises and community get togethers. People received visitors and people were supported by a range of external professionals to ensure their health needs were met. One person said, "“We have 2 choices of meals or they will do something else. I went to a cabaret show in the theatre.” A visiting professional told us, "It is always relaxed and calm here, the staff are always friendly, approachable and professional."

People’s care plans were detailed and contained information about people's preferences and wishes. Care plans were completed by a dedicated care co Ordinator and provided guidance to staff about how people were supported to make decisions and choices.

Staff offered choices to people and we observed kind interactions between people and staff.
