During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this on-site announced assessment on 6 August 2024. We found the practice had met regulations. The practice had systems to manage risks and recruitment procedures reflected current legislation. Infection control procedures followed published guidance. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and they were treated with dignity and respect. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required. There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. The practice is in Birmingham and provides NHS dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 3 dentists, 3 dental nurses, 2 trainee dental nurses, 2 practice managers, 2 receptionists and a cleaner. The practice had 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 1 dentist, and the practice managers.

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with a dentist, two dental nurses, a receptionist and the practice manager. We looked at the records seven people who had used the service.

Following our visit we spoke with five people over the telephone so that we could get their views of the service provided. All the people we spoke with were very positive about their experiences. They felt they were given enough information about their treatment options and were always asked about their medical history. One person told us, 'They talk you through the process; I am given all the information I need'.

We found that people received the care and treatment they needed and records detailed the treatment people had received.

There were infection prevention procedures in place to minimise the risk of infection. Decontamination procedures were followed to ensure instruments were being hygienically cleaned.

Staff had received appropriate training and development to enable them to deliver care and treatment to people safely and to an appropriate standard.

There were procedures in place to monitor quality of service and identify improvements where necessary.
