Our view of the service

Date of assessment 16th May to 15th July 2024. Chandlers Ford Care Home is a residential care home providing personal care and nursing care that can accommodate up to 45 people. At the time of our assessment 40 people were living at the service. We undertook this responsive assessment following information of concern we received about this service. We assessed a total of 9 quality statements across safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led key questions and have combined the scores for these areas with scores from the last inspection. We found the provider had made enough improvements in the safe key question and their rating for this key question has improved to reflect the rating of good. Overall we found people continue to receive good effective, caring and responsive support from staff. Under the key question of well-led we identified some shortfalls across the providers governance systems, processes and the quality and consistency of some peoples care records. Leaders were responsive to our feedback; however, the provider should ensure that identified improvements and the continued roll out of their digital systems reflect best practice guidance and they continue to monitor, review and embed improvements to ensure people using the service receive consistent effective, good quality care.

People's experience of this service

People we spoke with told us they felt they received safe care and treatment. Relatives told us they felt their loved ones were supported to manage risks associated with their care and support needs. People told us they did not always feel there was always enough staff available which meant they sometimes felt the care they received was rushed. Some people told us they experienced a delay in staff responding to call bells or that staff were not always able to take time to listen and spend time talking with people. Some people also told us they would like more opportunities to be independent in the care they received. Most people we spoke with told us they were supported to access healthcare professionals when they needed this, and nurses were available to support them with their healthcare needs. People told us they were supported by staff in a kind and caring manner. However, some relatives felt aspects of communication could be improved to support their loved ones to build a good rapport with staff. We observed positive interactions between staff and people during our visits. Relatives were able to visit their loved ones as they wished and people were supported to maintain their personal relationships with people that were important to them.
