Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 26 June 2024 to 2 July 2024. Reason for assessment: We were checking the provider had made improvements following the last inspection, as it was previously rated inadequate with multiple breaches of legal regulations. The overall rating at this assessment was requires improvement. This was an improvement on the last inspection where the service was rated inadequate. The service had made improvements and are no longer in breach of regulations. This service has been in Special Measures since 16 December 2023. The provider demonstrated improvements have been made. The service is no longer rated as inadequate overall or in any of the key questions. Therefore, this service is no longer in Special Measures. At this assessment we looked at all of the quality statements in safe and well-led and two quality statements in effective. The previous rating for effective was combined with the scores at this assessment to provide a rating; it remained requires improvement. The provider was on an improvement journey and had been taking action to address concerns and develop and sustain new systems in place to monitor the quality and safety of care. Some further improvements were still needed but many improvements had been made. The safety of peoples’ care had improved. We will check improvements continued and were sustained at the next assessment.
People's experience of this service
The quality and safety of people’s care had improved, although further improvements were still needed. A relative told us, “They [the management and staff] have worked incredibly hard to try and raise standards and real time and effort.” The same relative went on to tell us, that whilst there had been improvements, more were needed. People told us they felt safe and they felt able to raise concerns if this was needed. People had a good relationship with staff and had access to other health professionals. Action was taken to reduce the risk to peoples’ health and safety; although our observations showed this was not always followed through (however, no one had come to harm as a result of this). People had been exposed to risk due to the environment and infection control. People generally felt there were enough trained staff to support them. People were supported with their medicines. There was mixed feedback about the food, but people had access to enough food and drink to keep them well. People had their mental capacity checked, but improvements were needed with this. People were supported by a staff and management team who were dedicated to caring for people.
