Date of assessment: 21 August to 25 September 2024. We completed the assessment in response to information which indicated there had been delays in obtaining medical assistance in a timely manner when people experienced deterioration in their health. As a result, we assessed the key questions Safe, and Well-led and elements of Effective. Systems were in place to protect people from harm and abuse. Staff had assessed people's needs and risks. Staff knew people well and had a good understanding of their needs and individual risks and were aware of people's personal preferences. We observed good engagement between people and staff. Systems were in place to ensure the home was clean and maintained. Safe recruitment systems were being used when employing new staff. Progress was being made to ensure staff had the training they needed to effectively support people. We received mixed views from some of the home’s health care partners about the systems being used to ensure people's health and wellbeing needs were met in a timely manner. However, other partners told us staff worked well with them to support people’s wider health care needs. The registered manager and staff were passionate about the people they supported and worked well as a team to drive improvements. They investigated and reflected on incidents and identified any actions needed to embed good practices. Staff and managers were aware of their roles and responsibilities to report poor practices and any safeguarding concerns. Systems were in place to monitor the running and performance of the home and people’s experience of care. The registered manager was receptive to our feedback and took steps to enhance their monitoring systems, which required further improvement to better oversee and manage the home. More time was required to ensure these enhancements were fully integrated and maintained throughout the service.
