All Inspections

18 December 2013

During a routine inspection

Before people received any care or counselling they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. One person told us "They explained the process and verbally asked my consent at every session". Another person said 'I was asked for my consent before they started".

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. One person told us, 'In order to help me, KCA Medway sent me on drug and substance misuse awareness program, which helped me stop taking drugs'. Another person said, 'Fantastic service, my counsellor/key worker are superb, I like the service'.

There were effective recruitment and selection processes in place.

People who used the service, their representatives and staff were asked for their views about their care and treatment and they were acted on.

People had their comments and complaints listened to and acted on, without the fear that they would be penalised for making a complaint.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to people who used the service to gather their feedback on the care and treatment they received from the service. We spoke to staff about their roles, the services they provided and the training they had received. We also made observations

and reviewed records.

People told us that they were treated with respect by staff and felt that they had made progress with their treatment. One person said 'If it wasn't for this service, I don't think I'd still be here today'. Another person told us 'They really have bent over backwards to help me as much as they can'.

The service had appropriate arrangements in place for reporting any concerns that they had about the welfare of people who used their services to the local authority. They also had arrangements in place for safeguarding children where staff felt that there may be children at risk.

Staff received training and development that was relevant to their roles and also delivered training in the local area to raise awareness of the service.
