We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Accrington Victoria GP Practice on 6 June 2018 as part of our inspection programme.
At this inspection we found:
- The practice had clear systems to manage risk so that safety incidents were less likely to happen. We saw that while the practice learned from incidents and improved their processes, significant events were not always formally recorded.
- The practice routinely reviewed the effectiveness and appropriateness of the care it provided. It ensured that care and treatment was delivered according to evidence- based guidelines.
- A methodical approach had been implemented by the provider in understanding areas for development within the practice and clear action plans formulated to address them.
- Staff involved and treated patients with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
- Patients found the appointment system easy to use and reported that they were able to access care when they needed it.
- Staff told us they felt supported by practice leaders.
- There was a strong focus on continuous learning and improvement at all levels of the organisation.
The areas where the provider should make improvements:
- Lower the threshold for formally recording significant events, their analysis and any resulting changes to practice in order to maximise learning.
