Updated 14 May 2024

People spoke highly of the staff telling us they were kind, friendly and treated them in a respectful way. Staff knew people well and observation showed that people were at the centre of their care and support. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

People said, "Everything they do is led by me", "They always make sure I do things for myself if I can" and, "They know when I want to get up and go to bed, but they still always ask me." People told us staff called them by their preferred name and always knocked on their door before entering. People were supported to make choices about all aspects of their lives, for example food, clothes they wore, what time they got up and went to bed and how they wanted their care delivered. We saw a person choose their meal at lunch time, but when it was delivered to them they changed their mind. The staff quickly took the meal away and brought them the alternative they had asked for. People told us they attended meetings with the managers and gave examples of suggestions they had made that had been implemented by the service. People also attended regular meetings with the chef.
