Our view of the service

Bryony Lodge is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care for up to 9 people. They are registered to support older people, younger adults, learning disability and autistic spectrum disorder, physical disability. We carried out our onsite assessment on 4,5 April and 24 May 2024. Offsite activity started on 8 April and finished on 29 May. At our last inspection, 25 March 2021 the service was rated as good. At this assessment the rating of the service has changed to requires improvement. We found four breaches of the regulations. Risks associated with people’s needs, Infection, prevention and control and fire safety had not always been assessed, monitored, or mitigated effectively. The provider was responsive during the assessment and worked hard to address this. However, further time was needed to embed new processes into practice. There were not always enough staff available to meet people’s needs or to provide safe care and treatment. The provider was responsive to the concerns we raised and has increased the staffing levels at the service. People received their medication as prescribed. However, some further improvement to medicines processes were identified. The provider was responsive, and improvements were being made. The service had lack of consistent leadership with no registered manager in post. A new manager had been employed and started working at the service during our inspection. The provider had a range of quality assurance systems in place however, these were not always being used effectively and had not identified all the risks and shortfalls we found. The provider was responsive during our assessment and had made improvements following our initial findings. Staff were recruited safely, and most staff had the skills and knowledge they needed.
