Our view of the service

This service provides care and support to people living in specialist 'extra care' housing. Extra care housing is purpose-built or adapted accommodation in a shared site or building. The accommodation is rented and is the person's own home. At South Shaw Coast CL there were four buildings of flats known as Trinidad Village, Delphis Court, Shaftesbury Court and Belmont Court. Each building had communal lounges and an office where the care and supervisory staff who worked in that building were based. People's care and housing are provided under separate contractual agreements. CQC does not regulate premises used for extra care housing; this inspection looked at people's personal care and support service. Not everyone using Shaw South Coast CL receives a regulated activity. CQC only inspects the service being received by people provided with 'personal care': help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also take into account any wider social care provided. At the time of our on site assessment, 61 people received a regulated activity of personal care. We carried out our on site assessment on the 1 February 2024 and 7 February 2024, off site assessment activity started on 31 January 2024 and ended on 9 February 2024. During this assessment we looked at the following quality statements: Learning Culture; Involving People to Manage Risk; Safe and Effective Staffing; Person-Centred Care and Governance; Management and Sustainability.
