We assessed a limited number of quality statements in the responsive key question and found areas of good practice. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the rating from the last inspection, which was requires improvement. Though the assessment of these areas indicated areas of good practice since the last inspection, our rating for the key question remains requires improvement. People received person-centred care from staff who understood people’s individual needs. Staff treated people with respect. Feedback was sought from people who used the service and relatives.

Person-centred Care

People received person-centred care from staff who understood people’s individual needs. One relative told us, “They do listen to what [person] wants and [staff] respond accordingly.”

Staff understood people’s individual care needs and spoke about the importance of providing person-centred care.

Staff treated people with respect. They delivered care and support warmly and with compassion. Staff used people’s preferred names and treated them as individuals.

People did not raise any concerns regarding inequity in experiences and outcomes. People told us they were happy with the care they received.

Staff and leaders told us how the service was coordinated with the local GP surgery who carried out a weekly ward round. Staff made appropriate referrals to other healthcare professionals when needed, to promote equity in experiences and outcomes for all.

The service actively sought out information about people’s experiences from people and their relatives. The manager ensured every resident had the opportunity to speak privately with a staff member they feel comfortable with in order to put their views across. Input from relatives was being actively sought by the service.
