Kindness, compassion and dignity
People were treated with kindness, dignity and respect. Relatives were positive about the service. A relative told us, “Yes, things seem to be going in the right direction, they have been through difficult times but that has changed.” Another relative commented, “Yes, they do the staff always knock on the door.”
People were protected from discrimination within the service. Staff understood that racism, homophobia, transphobia or ageism were forms of abuse. They told us people should not be discriminated against because of their race, gender, age and sexual status and all people were treated equally. Staff gave us examples of how they maintained people’s dignity and privacy, not just in relation to personal care but also in relation to sharing personal information. Staff understood personal information should not be shared with others and that maintaining people’s privacy when giving personal care was vital in protecting their dignity.
During our last inspection we found people were not always treated with dignity and respect. During this inspection, we found improvements had been made. We saw staff knew people well and people felt at ease with them. Staff consistently engaged with people and provided care and support when needed. Care plans involved people where possible to ensure they were involved in decisions.
