Delivering evidence-based care and treatment
Staff were encouraged to learn about innovative approaches to delivering care. For example, there was a community emergency medicine service, where a senior doctor from the department worked alongside the ambulance service. Leaders had reviewed the service in relation to Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) recommendations for emergency departments.
The service had a programme of regular audit to ensure care was delivered in line with current evidence-based good practice and standards.
How staff, teams and services work together
Most people were positive about the way staff worked together across teams. Some people commented communication between referring GPs and NHS 111 could be improved.
Staff were mostly positive about the support from staff in the medical division. The emergency department ran the medical same day emergency care area alongside medical staff. The service worked with the ambulance service to reduce delays in ambulance handover times. Ambulance staff we spoke with were positive about the improvements the service had made to reduce handover times. Medical staff told us that support from mental health liaison staff could be improved out of hours and at weekends.
