During a routine inspection
We attended a focus group of prisoners during our visit. We received mixed feedback about the healthcare service, one person told us, 'It takes too long to get an appointment and I am sat waiting too long in the waiting room.' Another person said, 'The staff, when we get to see them, are very good. They always help me. '
When a prisoner was due to be resettled in the community the healthcare staff would arrange to meet with the prisoner in a pre-release clinic. This was to explain what services were available in the community and to manage the transfer of information to other healthcare providers.
We saw that a 'patient forum' was in use which provided an opportunity for prisoners to get together with staff and discuss the provision of healthcare services. We saw the minutes of the most recent meeting and saw that this provided an opportunity for prisoner's to put across their opinions.
