During a routine inspection

There were no concerns about the quality of care but people's capacity to consent to their treatment was not always assessed and recorded appropriately.

People said they were happy with their care and treatment on this ward and felt safe. Comments included; 'this is a good ward,' The staff are good" and 'I am treated well'. People were able to follow their own interests. One person said, "I go swimming once a week and go to the shops every day. I can go out whenever I like." Staff supported people to take part in therapeutic activities.

People were protected from the risks of inadequate nutrition and dehydration as there was a choice of nutritious food and drinks available. One person didn't like microwave meals but others described the food as "excellent" and "fantastic."

Records of physical health checks were not easily accessible to staff and in two cases had not taken place. One person had a physical health concern that had not been addressed.

Staff responded to individual needs well.

People were generally protected against the risks associated with medicines because the provider had appropriate arrangements in place to manage medicines. A lack of training for non nursing staff, an example of an unauthorised medicine and signing charts before confirmation of people swallowing medicine meant that people were not fully protected from risk.

There were enough suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs.
