During a routine inspection

We spoke with ten patients and two relatives who all spoke highly of the care they received from the staff. Comments ranged from 'everyone is so friendly,' 'some are pretty nice,' and 'they (staff) are alright.' All were happy with their care and treatment.

Once it had been agreed for a patient to be discharged the nurses and therapy staff ensured all professionals who were involved in the patients care were informed.

Patients we spoke with confirmed they saw therapy staff, one person said, 'I get physiotherapy in the gym, the staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble, they understand my problems."

We spoke with ten patients and some relatives who all confirmed that staff were available to help. One patient told us, 'the staff always have time for you.' Another patient said, 'staff usually come promptly when I call but it depends if they are busy or not."

Staff told us they knew how to report incidents. They also provided examples of changes made in response to learning from incidents that had occurred on the unit.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with a number of patients admitted to the Magnolia Unit. The majority of patients were very positive about their experiences during their stay. Staff were described as 'very good', 'cheerful' and 'lovely'. Physiotherapists were said to be 'very helpful'. Patients told us they had been treated well by staff and felt safe on the unit. Care and treatment options had been explained to them in a way they could understand.

Almost everyone we spoke with told us they were treated with respect by staff. One patient, however, told us that her privacy was not always respected as the curtains were not always pulled around her bed when personal care was provided by staff. Most patients told us they thought there were enough staff on the ward to meet their needs although some commented that staff were usually 'very busy'.
