S2. How are risks to people assessed, and their safety monitored and managed so they are supported to stay safe?

Characteristics of services we would rate as good in this area

Staffing levels and skill mix are planned, implemented and reviewed to keep people safe at all times. Any staff shortages are responded to quickly and adequately.

Where relevant, there are effective handovers and shift changes to ensure that staff can manage risks to people who use services.

Staff recognise and respond appropriately to changes in the risks to people who use services.

Risks to safety from changes or developments to services are assessed, planned for and managed effectively.

Risks to people who use services are assessed, monitored and managed on a day-to-day basis. These include signs of deteriorating health, medical emergencies or behaviour that challenges. People are involved in managing risks and risk assessments are person-centred, proportionate and reviewed regularly.
