E1. Are people's needs assessed and care and treatment delivered in line with current legislation, standards and evidence-based guidance to achieve effective outcomes?
Characteristics of services we would rate as good in this area
People's care and treatment is planned and delivered in line with current evidence-based guidance, standards, best practice, legislation and technologies. This is monitored to ensure consistency of practice.
People have comprehensive assessments of their needs, which include consideration of clinical needs (including pain relief), mental health, physical health and wellbeing, and nutrition and hydration needs. The expected outcomes are identified and care and treatment is regularly reviewed and updated, and appropriate referral pathways are in place to make sure that needs are addressed.
Where people are subject to the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA), their rights are protected and staff comply with the MHA Code of Practice. Any departure from the Code of Practice guidance is clearly justified.
