At the assessment on 20 August 2024, we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulations: Staff knew how to respond to a medical emergency and had completed training in emergency resuscitation and basic life support. Staff were encouraged to participate in medical emergency scenario training monthly during staff meetings. Emergency equipment and medicines were available and checked in accordance with national guidance. Staff could access these in a timely way. The practice manager described the processes they had in place to identify and manage risks. The practice had a fire and health and safety risk assessment, and a disability access audit completed by an external company in June 2024. The practice had created an action plan to address improvements. The provider had ensured that fire safety processes were effective and in line with fire safety legislation. We saw satisfactory records of servicing of equipment in line with manufacturer’s instructions including the fire alarm and emergency lighting.

At the assessment on 20 August 2024, we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulations: The practice ensured equipment was safe to use and maintained and serviced according to manufacturers’ instructions. We were provided with evidence of autoclave servicing records and ultrasonic validation records. The practice had implemented improved systems for appropriate and safe handling of medicines.

Safe and effective staffing

At the assessment on 20 August 2024, we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulations: The practice had implemented arrangements to ensure staff training was up-to-date and reviewed at the required intervals. The practice had a recruitment policy and procedure to help them employ suitable staff, including for agency or locum staff. These reflected the relevant legislation. The practice ensured clinical staff were qualified, registered with the General Dental Council and had appropriate professional indemnity cover. Newly appointed staff had a structured induction, and clinical staff completed continuing professional development required for their registration with the General Dental Council.
