Staff prompted equality and had a good understanding of people’s diverse needs. Care records showed that people’s background, including culture and religion were recorded and any needs arising were met.

Relatives told us people's cultural and religious needs were met. They said staff supported people to visit a place of worship if this was what they wanted. For some people this was an important part of their life. For other people it was important to them to eat certain foods, staff made sure these foods were readily available. This meant people could be confident that their preferences and wishes would be met by the team.

Staff and leaders had a good understanding of equality and promoted this in their service. For example, people were given information in different formats. This helped to break down communication barriers. This meant people could make informed decisions about their care and support

The provider had an effective system in place to protect people’s rights. Staff had training in equality and diversity. Discrimination of any kind was not tolerated. There were policies in place for staff to follow regarding protecting people from discrimination. This meant people could be confident that their rights would be protected as much as possible.
