Treating people as individuals
We did not look at Treating people as individuals during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Caring.
Independence, choice and control
People were involved in their care and their suggestions were listened to by staff. A family member said, “They all know my [relative], and that [relative] likes to have a duster and help with a bit of cleaning which gives a good feeling.” Another family member said, “[Relative] is safe and has constant care, and [relatives] mood has picked up with all the activities and day trips.” Several people told us there were things to do in the home and that they are encouraged to join in. One person told us about an event that was happening at the weekend with live entertainment. Another person said, “We have a meeting once a month to review menu's, if we want to try something new we can suggest it and if enough people want to try it, then we can.” People’s individual needs, such as culture, physical and mobility needs or the things important to them were considered and catered for. Staff recognised and celebrated people’s achievements.
The registered manager said, “It was important to get to know people, offer choices and opportunities, we have 2 people who use advocates.” Staff told us about numerous opportunities that were provided to people to enjoy different activities, events and outings which had a positive impact on their wellbeing and quality of life. One staff member said, “I like that we have time here that we can promote independence because we are not rushed.”
