Our view of the service

Ridge House is a residential care home providing personal care to up to 15 people. The service provides support to people aged 65 and over with a physical disability or dementia. The assessment was triggered in part by concerns identified with the providers oversight and involvement at the service. Our visit was unannounced and took place on 15 May 2024. We looked at 14 quality statements. An Expert by Experience spoke with 6 people living at the service and 2 relatives as part of our assessment on 11 April 2024 to gain their feedback on the service. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service. We also used the Short Observational Framework for assessment (SOFI) during our visit. SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who were not able to comment specifically on the service. The assessment process showed people received a good standard of care in a well maintained environment. People were involved in choices about their care and received support from safely recruited and trained staff. The service worked in partnership with others to achieve good outcomes for people. There were governance arrangements in place at service level, however there was no provider level governance in place. During the assessment process we also identified a breach in relation to sending statutory notifications. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
