People and relatives were very positive about the care agency staff. Overall people were satisfied with how care was delivered. People were asked about their needs at the initial assessment. If people preferred a female or male care worker to support them this was recorded and respected by staff. Details of people’s cultural and religious needs were also recorded and respected by staff.

Staff and leaders had a good understanding of equality and diversity. The registered manager told us, “We respect people’s religious beliefs, and we celebrate with them on their festival days, regardless of their religion.” We asked staff about equality and diversity and staff explained they would respect people as individuals. Staff also told us they knew people well and were able to explain how people liked to be supported. One staff member said, “Their cultural needs – yes I know what [person] likes and dislikes its written on her care plan and also, I talk to her, so I know what she likes to eat and what her routine is.”

The provider had a clear process in place to ensure people’s needs were met. Care planning and reviews were carried out regularly. People’s individual needs were recorded, and staff knew people well. Staff have training in equality and diversity which meant they could recognise and challenge discrimination.
