We assessed one quality statement in the caring key question and found areas of good practice. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the rating from the last inspection, which was good. Our rating for this key question remains good. Staff treated people with care, kindness and compassion. During the assessment, we observed numerous acts of kindness and dignified support being provided to people. Visiting health professionals provided positive feedback about how staff treated people and the positive interactions they had observed during their visits to the home.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

Staff treated people with care, kindness and compassion. This was reflected in the feedback provided from people and their relatives. People were consistently positive about the caring attitude of staff and enjoyed positive relationships with them. Comments included, "The girls are very kind to us", "The staff are nice and they will laugh with you" and "I like the girls, they are very jolly and kind." Relatives were also consistently positive about the treatment of their loved ones. Comments included, "The staff are amazing and very caring indeed, they go over and above", "[Name] has been in other homes and this is the best, they do care for [Name]", and "The staff are so caring, nothing is too much trouble."

Staff were able to describe how they felt they provided a caring, kind and compassionate service to people. A staff member told us, "I love chatting to them. I love spending time trying to make them smile." Another staff member told us, "I feel I go above and beyond, speak how I would like to be spoken to."

We obtained feedback from three visiting health professionals who provided positive comments about how staff treated people. Comments included, "I believe this is a good care home, I have no concerns" and "Care home staff in Oak Springs show kindness and compassion when providing care. They maintain the dignity of all of their residents."

We observed numerous acts of kindness and dignified support being provided to people. For example, we observed a staff member discreetly asking a person if they required some personal assistance. They did this in a way which was dignified and ensured the persons privacy was respected.
