Kindness, compassion and dignity
Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice. Patients reflected that staff were welcoming and attentive, acted with integrity, and showed compassion. Comments included, “The dentist is very personable and always makes me feel at ease, despite my anxiety about going to the dentist”. One patient told us that staff delivered treatment with a gentle approach, which made each visit a pleasant experience, and another patient told us, “They care immensely about their patients. They are very knowledgeable and I trust them fully.” Patients said staff were professional, courteous, and considerate. One patient told us, “The receptionists are friendly, professional and always trying to help.” Another patient told us, “The team all treat patients in a caring and supportive way. They have always been highly professional, honest and outstanding over the many years we have been treated here.” Patients felt they were treated as individuals, and their personal and cultural needs were respected. Children were very well accommodated at the practice, with preventative advice given from an early age to encourage good oral and general health. One patient told us, “My daughter gets excited to come – they are excellent at dealing with kids.”
Staff were aware of their responsibility to respect people’s diversity and human rights, and the importance of privacy and confidentiality. Staff felt respected, valued and supported in their roles. One staff member told us that they felt the practice promoted a healthy work-life balance. They were involved in decision making, encouraged to share ideas and believed that their contributions were valued and helped contribute to the growth of the practice. Leaders described how they supported the wellbeing of staff. They provided flexibility when possible and had an open-door policy, so staff felt they could always approach them when required.
