Caring
People told us staff were kind and caring. Staff had got to know people well as individuals and supported them to make choices and be independent if this was their choice.

Independence, choice and control
People and relatives told us the staff team were kind, compassionate and caring. Relative’s comments included, ‘‘[Staff] are all very kind, caring, respectful, friendly and willing to do the best they can.’’ and ‘‘The staff are amazing. [Family member] can’t wait to see them and always give them a wave.’’ Relatives also told us staff gave their family member choices whilst they supported them on a day-to-day basis.
Staff knew people well and told us how they supported them to make choices and be independent as much as possible. This included showing people choices directly or taking a step back when supporting people to enable them to do as much as they could by themselves before staff supported them.
People’s care plans were detailed and gave specific instructions to staff about how best to promote and encourage people to make choices and be independent. The management team reviewed daily records to help ensure staff were supporting people according to the guidelines in their care plans.
